The wellbeing of the children at Etchingham is very important to us. Mrs. Cherane Marshall is the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Mrs. Heloise Prus is the Deputy DSL. Our team is highly trained and skilled in ensuring all our pupils are safe. If a disclosure is made or if a member of staff or pupil has a concern, we follow the East Sussex County Council advice which can be found in our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy. It is paramount that every pupil in our care is safe and we do what we legally have to do to ensure that this remains the case.
We are committed to ensuring that our children are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to keep themselves safe online. This is built into our curriculum through, most notably, RSHE and Computing lessons, but also more broadly as we engage in the use of technology daily.
As a parent, you can work in partnership with us to help your children to further develop these skills. This parent toolkit offers useful guidance:
The Prevent Strategy
As part of our commitment to safeguarding and child protection we fully support the government's Prevent Strategy and take guidance from Teaching Approaches to help build resilience to extremism.
The Prevent Strategy:
- responds to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and aspects of extremism, and the threat we face from those who promote these views
- provides practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure they are given appropriate advice and support
- works with a wide range of sectors (including education, criminal justice, faith, charities, online and health)

Operation Encompass is a partnership between police and schools which is based on the principle that all incidents of domestic abuse are shared with schools, not just those where an offence can be identified. If a child has been involved in, heard or witnessed a domestic incident, we will be informed through Operation Encompass to allow immediate early intervention.
